Saturday night’s fight between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr. was a perfect example of boxing’s unpredictability where anything that can happen, will happen.

Lamont Roach Jr., a significant underdog, surprised many by nearly defeating Gervonta Davis, and his impressive performance earned him a new fan in Joe Rogan.

After the pair met under the bright lights in Barclays Center, the fight started as usual. Davis didn’t engage much in the first few rounds, reading Roach and his move

However, ‘The Reaper’ had his strategy memorized to a T, and stuck to it. Roach didn’t show off much, remained calm, and waited for Davis to start attacking. When Davis was finally ready for action, so was Roach, and the duo went blow for blow.

Despite Davis’ bone-crushing power, which has earned him a 93 percent knockout rate, Roach stood his ground and at times, sent Davis stumbling.

Gervonta Davis failed to gain a clear lead, while Lamont Roach Jr. dominated, leading to a majority draw and claims of robbery in Roach's favor.

Regardless, a rematch seemed like the obvious next step, but the path to it remains uncertain at best. Amid the uncertainty, Joe Rogan weighed in on Roach’s performance with a remark that felt like rubbing salt in Davis’ wound.

“Watching the replay of the outstanding title fight last night between [Gervonta Davis] and [Lamont Roach Jr.],” he wrote on Instagram while sharing a picture from Saturday’s fight.

"I had never seen Lamont fight before, but I’m a big fan now,” Rogan continued. “Fight was a draw, but it was an amazing contest and I really hope they run it back.”

Rogan’s remark aside, there’s a new update on the rematch between Davis and Roach.
