Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy’s Return to NXT

Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy’s Return to NXT

Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy, collectively known as The Hardys, made a significant return to WWE on the February 25, 2025, episode of NXT. T

This marked their first tag team match in WWE since April 30, 2019, when they last competed on SmackDown. The Hardys had previously left WWE, with Matt departing in 2020 and Jeff being released in December 2021 due to personal issues.

The Match and Victory  The Hardys’ return match on NXT was against No Quarter Catch Crew’s Myles Borne and Tavion Heights. The match was set up after NQCC called out The Hardys on the February 18th episode of NXT, and the challenge was accepted.

Post-Match Developments Following their victory, NXT Tag Team Champions Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer and Axiom) confronted The Hardys. Matt Hardy praised Fraxiom, acknowledging their prowess, while Jeff Hardy challenged them to a match.

Post-Match Developments TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella then announced that The Hardys would defend their TNA World Tag Team Titles against Fraxiom at NXT Roadblock in New York City.

Context of the Return  The Hardys’ return to WWE was facilitated by a working relationship between TNA and WWE’s NXT brand. This partnership allowed for cross-promotional events, and The Hardys’ appearance on NXT was a result of this collaboration.

Context of the Return  Matt Hardy discussed the spontaneity of their return on his podcast, “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy,” noting that the decision to appear on NXT was made just an hour before it was filmed.

Jeff Hardy’s Personal Journey  Jeff Hardy’s return to WWE was particularly notable given his past struggles with addiction. WWE had released him in 2021 after he declined in-patient treatment following a troubling incident at a house show. His subsequent run in AEW was also marred by an arrest related to intoxication.

The Hardys’ return to NXT was a significant event, marking their first WWE tag team match in years and setting the stage for a high-profile title defense at NXT Roadblock. Their appearance was a testament to the ongoing partnership between TNA and WWE, and it highlighted Jeff Hardy’s personal journey towards redemption and professional resurgence.
