The August 1, 2025, episode of Friday Night SmackDown emanated live from Newark. The AAA Tag Team Champions, Berto and Angel, known collectively as Los Garza, were announced to defend their titles. However, it was kept secret who their opponents would be until that very moment. The surprise actually helped when the electrifying duo of Psycho Clown and Mr. Iguana from Lucha Libre AAA came out.
Their appearance gained huge pops from the crowd, who were already hot for the ever-entertaining Mr. Iguana. The Mexican legend had already begun to win over WWE fans, appearing at the WWE-AAA event in June, Worlds Collide. Clown also received the special treatment, though, as he complemented Iguana’s high-flying style with his intense, hard-hitting approach. Despite being last-minute additions to the card, Clown and Iguana captivated the crowd with their dynamic performance.
However, the crowd’s enthusiastic response was not the only thing they needed to get the win. Los Garza demonstrated why they hold the AAA Tag Team Championships. After absorbing the challengers’ spirited offense, Los Garza executed a decisive finishing sequence, securing the pinfall victory and retaining their titles. This win added another successful defense to their impressive championship reign, reinforcing their dominance in the AAA tag team division.
Even though WWE tried to keep their debut a secret, news that came up that day kind of gave it away!
Mr. Iguana and Psycho Clown were pulled out of the AAA show
Earlier that day, Lucha Libre AAA announced that Psycho Clown and Mr. Iguana had been pulled from AAA’s August 2 event in Chihuahua due to WWE commitments. This news sparked immediate speculation among fans, which was confirmed when the duo appeared on SmackDown. They answered an open challenge issued by Santos Escobar on behalf of Los Garza. The surprise debut heightened anticipation for the match and highlighted WWE’s strategy to integrate AAA’s top talent into its programming.
While much of the SmackDown tag team division is gearing up for a high-stakes TLC match at SummerSlam 2025, Los Garza remain focused on their AAA Tag Team Championships. Notably, they are the only SmackDown tag team not competing in the WWE Tag Team Title bout at SummerSlam 2025.

The debut of Psycho Clown and Mr. Iguana brought novelty to the already outperforming SmackDown tag team division. When the entirety of the SD tag team division is vying for the WWE Tag Team Championships, AAA stars are gaining attention on the side. Least to say, it is a win-win situation for both promotions.
It is also to be noted that Mr. Iguana is the one-half of the AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions alongside La Hiedra. Still, he challenged for the AAA Tag Team Championship on SmackDown and offered entertainment for the WWE audience.
