The main event of AAA Triplemania XXXIII featured a thrilling four-way match for the AAA Mega Championship. El Hijo del Vikingo was set to defend his title against Dominik Mysterio, Dragon Lee, and El Grande Americano. The crowd was against the champion and cheered for the rest competitors, mostly for Dominik. However, as delightful the match was, the ending surely left a sour taste for the audience.

Mysterio and Americano formed a temporary alliance, targeting their opponents. The match’s climax was pure chaos as members of The Judgment Day came in for Dominik’s support. LWO ran in to eliminate that threat and help Lee. While two other Americano masked allies of El Grande joined the fray. El Grande gained the momentum and had a steel plate up on his forehead, but was countered by Dragon.

The reigning Intercontinental Champion seized his moment, pulling out a Rey Mysterio mask to conceal a steel plate. He unleashed a headbutt to Americano and hammered Lee with a jumping headbutt, followed by a frog splash. The crowd was electric when Dom went in for the pin and gave the referee the chance to pin until three counts. But a masked figure took out the referee, who was then revealed as AJ Styles.

The Phenomenal Star hit Dominik with a Styles Clash, allowing Vikingo to land a 630 senton, retaining the championship. This surprise attack by Styles prolongs their rivalry and potentially sees a rematch for the IC title at Clash in Paris. However, that interference dashed Dominik’s dreams, likely leaving Rey chuckling at his son’s misfortune.

What’s next for Dominik Mysterio in AAA?

This AJ Styles’ attack gives away the fact that WWE is eyeing his rematch with Dominik Mysterio. Looking at last year’s Backlash in France where Styles competed for the Undisputed WWE Championship, the crowd erupted. WWE could be expecting the same treatment this year, going to Paris. A rematch between Styles and Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship at Clash in Paris seems viable.

The fact that AJ is getting another shot at the IC title and seeing how crowd favorite he would be in France, there are fewer chances for his loss again. That leaves Dominik to end his title reign, which he has carried since WrestleMania 41. But this is not in any way a lesser thing for Dom, as AAA might have planned something for him.

Now that Mysterio would not have a title on his shoulder and even the Styles problem would have been done, he would revisit his AAA Mega Championship goals. Potentially at the September 12, 2025, event of WWE X AAA Worlds Collide, Vikingo will face Mysterio. That’s when the trigger needs to be pulled for Dominik to capture the AAA gold and represent the promotion.
