WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart finds it hard to watch modern-day professional wrestling. He states candidly that it appears to be ‘fake’. In contradiction, he claims his real affection for his time of wrestling in the 90s. Not only did he generalize today’s wrestling, but specifically criticized Sheamus and his wrestling style.
During an interview on the Johnny I Pro Show, Hart took a specific dig at the Irish Warrior Sheamus. “Whenever I see Sheamus, I’m like, why don’t you take 10 minutes and have someone teach you how to throw a punch instead of throwing that embarrassment of a punch,” Hart said. He implied just the hard-hitting nature of Sheamus and mentioned his chops, making him unlikely to be a professional wrestler.
For Hart, the overall presentation of wrestling was superior in the past, with a stronger emphasis placed on the “art of wrestling”. However, now, he feels there is more to the acting part, as wrestlers just pretend to wrestle. They don’t even understand the basics of a headlock is as they just try to get their ‘moves’ in.
Hart contrasted the current era of wrestling with his era, where he felt the matches conveyed a greater sense of realism. Even while watching old Stampede wrestling matches, he remembers the authenticity in it. The way wrestlers of his time executed maneuvers like punches and kicks seemed genuine to him.
Bret Hart again takes a dig at Goldberg while praising Brock Lesnar
Bret Hart reignited his tensions with Goldberg. He did not take a direct shot but minced his words to reach the Goldberg criticism while lauding Brock Lesnar. While discussing dream opponents, Hart highlighted the contrast in how Lesnar and Goldberg approach wrestling. He expressed deep respect for Lesnar’s style, stating he would have loved to wrestle him because Lesnar is known to be a professional.
He described Lesnar as the one who works safely and takes his craft seriously. Hart used this praise to pivot back to his critique of Goldberg, claiming he is “not like Goldberg.” The Hitman once again criticized Goldberg for his perceived lack of basic wrestling skills, asserting that Lesnar “knows what the wrestling is all about” and “does it right,” whereas some, like Goldberg, “never understood it.”
He praised lauding Brock as the heavyweight he always wished to compete against. Hart and Goldberg‘s relationship remains strained due to a botched kick from Goldberg in WCW that ultimately led to the end of Hart’s wrestling career.
