The bitter rivalry between Rey Mysterio and his son, Dominik Mysterio, is far from over. It has taken a new direction with it being reignited over on Monday Night RAW. Their latest confrontation happened as Rey Mysterio made his return since being injured in April this year. This was to humble his son, “Dirty Dom” who took to the ring loudly proclaiming himself the greatest luchador of all time, the greatest Intercontinental and AAA Mega Champion, and, naturally, the “greatest Mysterio of all-time.”
Dominik’s promo claimed he is the ‘king of the luchadores’. Rey wasted no time, telling Dom that he draws the line at him claiming the title, questioning if Dom truly believed he was better than legends like El Santo, Blue Demon, and Eddie Guerrero. Dominik’s fiery response, though, was to tell Rey to “keep my father’s name out of your mouth.”
Dom boasted that he had already surpassed all of Rey’s achievements and threatened to “kick his ass again” if Rey didn’t leave “his ring.” When Dom attempted a cheap shot, Rey countered, successfully connecting with the 619. Dominik quickly rolled out of the ring before Rey could follow up with the frog splash, retreating up the ramp. Rey’s return sets the stage for the next chapter in their feud, with a potential title match at Survivor Series in their hometown of San Diego.
Rey Mysterio’s last match in WWE back in April
Back in the first quarter of 2025, Rey Mysterio was quite a mainstay on Monday Night RAW. The legend was the first to enter the Royal Rumble 2025 and was also in a qualification match for the Elimination Chamber. The luchador was wrestling singles matches as well as tag team bouts alongside Dragon Lee.
He was feuding with The New Day and American Made for all these months both though singles and tag team competitions. However, his last match was on SmackDown, and that too was the go-home episode before WrestleMania 41. It was a six-man tag team match with Mysterio, Lee, and Rey Fenix against American Made’s Chad Gable, Brutus Creed and Julius Creed.
This match apparently saw Rey being injured and ruled him out of the WrestleMania match slated on the very next night. The bout was stated to be against El Grande Americano. However, due to Mysterio’s injury, Fenix was his replacement, resulting in Rey taking place of Rey.
